The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) New South Wales offers challenging careers for people looking to contribute to achieving open government in NSW.
The OIC is an independent statutory body that champions the right to information under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act).
The Information Commissioner’s role is to promote public awareness and understanding of the new right to information legislation in NSW, and to provide information, advice and assistance to government agencies, the public, community organisations and the media.
The OIC monitors agency compliance, reviews decisions made by government agencies and receives and investigates complaints.

Our stakeholders
Our stakeholders include the public, NSW government agencies and their staff, local councils, state-owned corporations, non-government organisations, the media, Parliament, Ministers and their staff, the Parliamentary Joint Committee that oversees our office, independent bodies including ICAC and the NSW Ombudsman and other Information Commissioners.
